Enathu, a typical malayalee village, where the traditional ‘peedika’ , ‘kvala’ are all alive along with the brotherhood that a traditional community thrives on. Most of the neighbouring houses were concrete extensions to the traditional wooden house. And the new ones were the stereotyped concrete flatroof with a 2 feet sloping sunshade all around. The project was a weekend home to a retired from government couple. The requirement was small and simple, a living & dining hall, two bedrooms , a kitchen and a carporch. Now , the question arised was, in what language shall we build. The site was a narrow 1 acre property with 12m width, the mothers burial spot to be intact , which marked the rear of the area allocation. we decided to explore the project with the rationale of the contemporary and the aesthetics of the traditional.
