Church at Poruvazhy

Orthodox Church |  Poruvazhy

The church belonged to an orthodox christian community in the village of Poruvazhy. Construction of the basement had commenced when we were approached to give a visual identity to the church. Social aspiration of the church was for the typical white adorned mass. Confining ourselves into this typology, we explored the engagement between the adorned and unadorned elements. Our earlier studies on traditional church ornamentation patterns were used and here these patterns surpassed mere decoration and became embodied in the architecture in a way that it became a visually prominent layer carrying the red domes.
